Eskişehir Technical University
Anadolu University is founded in 1958 in Eskişehir, Anadolu University, which has gained a well- deserved place as a modern, dynamic and innovative institution among the largest universities not only in Turkey but also in the world. Some of the faculties and schools, as well as the majority of administrative units and social facilities, are at Yunusemre Campus, renowned as a center of science and culture and a city of youth. İki Eylül Campus, which houses the School of Physical Education and Sports, the Faculty of Aeronautics and Astronautics, the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Architecture and Design, Institute of Science, Institute of Social Science and Institute of Transportation is five kilometers away from the city center. Anadolu Airport is situated on this campus.
In 2018 the technical based faculties and schools of the Anadolu University split and Eskişehir Technical University is founded with the five faculties which are located on İki Eylul campus and two vocational schools that are located on Porsuk Campus. The Transportation Vocational School and Transportation Sciences Institute provides education in its own building in the city center of this newly founded technical university.
The education in associate degree programs related to transportation previously situated at Porsuk Vocational School, “Transportation and Road Traffic Services”, “Railroad Electrical and Electronics Technologies”, “Railroad Machine Technology”, “Railroad Transportation Management”, and “Railroad Construction” started in 2001-2002 academic year, “Rail Transport Mechanic Training” and “Logistic Programs” started in 2009-2010 academic year and “Civil Aviation and Cabin Services” started in 2010-2011 academic year. Transportation Vocational School was established in 2012 to carry out education and training activities focused on Road Traffic Safety and Railroad technologies. Today, it continues to provide education and training services having a total of 8 programs including “Logistics”, “Railroad Electrical and Electronics Technologies”, “Railroad Machine Technology”, “Railroad Technologies", “Rail Transport Mechanic Training”, “Civil Aviation and Cabin Services”, “Railroad Transportation Management” and "Transportation and Road Traffic Services” with 37 academic staff professional in their fields. Besides the laboratories with regard to the need for higher education, the campus has a cafeteria and sports center which allows the students to chill and refresh during their daily routines.
Besides its leading role in the field of railway systems education, Transportation Vocational School has a vital contribution to the foundation of "The Railway Systems Excellence Center Project" with the budget of 464 Million TL which has been launched on 14.01.2012 by the Ministry of Development. As A part of this ongoing project, the National Railway Systems Research and Testing Center (URAYSİM) will be established as well. In this context, the tender process of the test roads has been completed, and the tender works for the test systems and hangars in the test center are still being carried out. Once the project is completed, it will be Europe's largest rail systems research and testing center.
Various studies have been carried out in the fields of "Transportation Services", "traffic safety systems" and "Railway Systems Technology" with regard to "Improvement of the Vocational and Technical Education Quality – METEK project” which led by Transportation Vocational School and Ministry of National Education. In addition to the national projects, the school conducted international project with the title “Development of Education Modules for Railway Passenger Service Systems ( DEM-Rail-PSS)” 2017-1-TR01-KA202-046496 as well which is supported by EU under the Strategic Partnerships for Vocational Education and Training umbrella.
